Diving in the Algarve
The Algarve coast line stretches about 100 miles from the western-most tip to the Spanish border and is well known for its expansive and extensive beaches of fine golden sands, but there is another paradise just below the water, another Algarve, silent and colourful.
Jacques Cousteau called it the world of silence, in recognition of one of the most powerful sensations felt by those taking to the depths. Another aspect is the stunning visual effect created by the unique show of colour put on by all the underwater sea life.
The Algarve is perfect to enjoy the best of the world beneath the sea.
The Atlantic Ocean is packed full of life. To help you take in this marvellous world, the Algarve offers excellent diving conditions at various locations, whatever the level of the diver's experience. Such sites include the Bay of Galé, where you can dive on the walls, which are considered one the best spots in the Algarve.
Diving down to just 10 metres in depth, it is possible to discover hidden beauties, species living concealed among rocks and crevices. Swoop across open plains of sand in the company of starfish, cuttlefish, crabs, lobsters, octopuses, conger eels, morays eels, rays and big schools of fish from different species, colours and sizes. You can also find tuna and sometimes big groupers.
